Pre-review: Spider-Man Brand New Day

Our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is back! The problem? Spider-Man is friendly but Peter Parker is friendless. And how can a human without friends really feel human?
Peter is no more. There is only Spider-Man. Because he could not fully commit to separating Spider-Man and Peter, his Aunt May dies and his two best friends’ lives are continuously endangered. As penance, Peter allows himself to be erased from the collective memory of humanity. His best friends are now just somebodies he used to know. It hurts him deeply but he is convinced that this is the only way to continue loving his friends. He is convinced that this shows his personal maturity.
This was the ending of the last spiderman movie and the starting point of this movie. I used to think that this was an ending too fitting to continue. Peter is like a punished hero from the Greek tragedies of old. Sure I feel sad for Peter. It is a cruel fate to lose all your loved ones. But I feel Peter got this coming. He has become wiser for shutting himself away.
But shutting yourself away has tremendous consequences of its own and I am very happy these consequences are the driving force of this latest emotion-filled addition to the MCU.
